Class Syllabus Welcome to 7th grade social studies. Our focus will be on Africa, Southwest Asia (Middle East) and Eastern/Southern Asia. We will explore people, cultures, religions, key historical events, government and economics during our journey. Our classroom motto is: Be responsible Be resourceful Be respectful Each student is expected to follow directions quickly, submit work on-time and make smart choices while learning to build relationships and work with others. Text: Students will have access to a variety of online resources that will be used in class through Google Classroom. We will have various resources available to use throughout the year (workbooks, magazines, articles, etc.). Materials - bring to class everyday: notebook with tabs, notebook paper, colored pencils, pencils, & earbuds Course Description & Outline by Quarter: In seventh grade, students will study the continents of Africa and Asia with a focus on the history, geography, civics, and economic development of various regions. Students will learn about the above areas through inquiry based learning, cooperative learning groups, research, projects, current events and a variety of classroom activities while developing independent learning and critical thinking skills. Requirements/Evaluations: Students will be evaluated on skills using a variety of summative and formative assessments such as quizzes, map tests, unit tests, projects, homework and daily work. 45% Summative Assessments (tests and projects)
Note: No extra credit is offered. Google Classroom online will be used for learning and many assignment submissions. Please ensure you have signed the “Acceptable Use Policy” for technology. Make-Up Work It is your responsibility to make up all missed assignments due to absences. You are expected to get missed hand-outs and notes. You are allowed the number of days you were absent plus one to hand in those assignments without deducted points. Late Work Policy Assignments may be accepted for two days with ten points off per day. Assignments may not be accepted on or after the third day.
